School Uniform

The purpose of uniform is to ensure that all children feel equal at school, and also help children to feel proud of identifying with and representing their school. A uniform reduces the peer pressure on coming in with “designer “ wear  and should make getting dressed in the morning very much easier!

The uniform at St Michael’s has, until recently, tried to compromise between full uniform and a relaxed attitude to appearance.  However, Governors feel that the rules regarding uniform have been too open to interpretation, and the result was that there was no “uniform” appearance at all.

From NOW items with the school logo can be purchased from Stevensons, online sales@stevensons.co.uk or by phone 01727853262; otherwise all other items may be easily and cheaply purchased from local shops and supermarkets, such as Marks and Spencer, Tesco etc.

The main difference is clear information on footwear and proper trousers /skirts, so that the jogging bottoms become sports wear again, as they should be.  Shirts and blouses should now be white, rather than a choice between pale blue or white.

We  hope that parents will be able to make these changes when buying new school clothes. We would like all children to have the simplified uniform by next term.  If any parent has difficulty with any of this, please do come to see me (Barbara Smith).

Governors are very keen to see this uniform in place and are fully supporting this drive.

·      There are no ties, or blazers.

·      School baseball caps, and woollen hats with the School logo, are available from the school office.

Children should not wear jewellery at School. It is costly, and unnecessary. For safety reasons, where children need to have ear-rings, they must be of the smallest possible stud type.

Jewellery worn in school will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day. Watches, if worn, must be discreet.  They should not have integral alarms or calculators.

 LOST PROPERTY

All clothing should be labelled with the owner’s name. This ensures that mislaid items can be returned to the owner without delay. Other items of lost property are put in boxes, found outside the science room in the junior building.. Articles found are taken around classrooms from time to time. If something is unclaimed for a long period of time, it is disposed of.

The School Governors regret that they cannot be held responsible for the loss of any item.
