Summer Term 2010
GOODBYE AND GOOD LUCK TO INDIA. WE ARE ALL MISSING YOU. NEW (23.7.10) More 'Passion' photos can be found through the link left. More to follow soon. Please make sure you continue to check this website over the holidays as I add more when time allows me. Thank you Picasso Class! You have all been fantastic! See you again in Year 6!!! Have a great summer and take care! Mr. W (21.7.10) I'm doing my best to get as many of the 'Passion' photos on this website by the end of term. If I don't quite get there - don't worry - it will be done soon. Keep an eye on the site for additional photos. I hope to have a few from the steel pan drumming at Green School too. (12.7.10) This Wednesday is 'Passion Day'! Children need to bring their equipment for their stall or event as well as their P.E kit for the sporting items. They do not need to bring a packed lunch as a lunch will be provided. Don't forget it's sports day on Thursday as well. The children will need to dress in the colours of their house group. (7.7.10) Oops! Forgot to give out 'Big Write' info. The children had a fun session today cutting newspaper headlines and making new ones by joining parts of each together. e.g. 'Five-Year Old Saves Dad from Drowning' and 'Gordon Brown becomes Prime Minister' can be made into 'Five-Year Old becomes Prime Minister' or 'Gordon Brown Saves Dad from Drowning'. Anyway the children have created headlines like these and will choose one of their favourites to write a news article in 'Big Write' tomorrow. Please discuss with them what they aim to write. Ask them what they have learnt about the ordering of the information and suggest ways in which their news story can be structured. Don't forget the 5W's! What? Why? Where? When? Who? (7.7.10) More 'Passion' photos have been added. See link (left). I'll get there!!! (4.7.10) Lots of 'Passion' work this week. Please ensure your child updates their scrapbooks. Water project certificates are being handed out this week as well as results from last week's times-table test. I will be adding lots of photos of 'Passions' and trips soon. The trip to Green School last week was an excellent event - photos soon. Can the class rep come forward to discuss 'Passion Day'? Thanks. I have included a timetable again this week (see right) to give the children some idea of when to be ready for their 'Passion' work. There will be no more maths homework this term. This is because I want the children to focus on their times-tables as I intend to carry out several tests. Please ensure the return slips for the reports get to me by Friday. Many thanks. If any parent wishes to speak to me in regards to the reports, please contact me asap. (2.7.10) The reports were sent home with the children today. Please ensure you complete the form to state you have received it and return next week. Writing levels are much more difficult to achieve. For example many children in Year 5 are capable of achieving Level 5 reading and maths but only a few if any achieve Level 5 for writing. However, if your child is already achieving any Level 4 in writing this means they are doing very well and working at a level above national average for Year 5. 3A is seen to be in line with national expectations. Of course any Level 5 achieved at this stage is excellent. However, this is based on one assessment and it is important that the children produce this level consistently if they are to achieve this again in Year 6. Well done Picasso for a great year! NEW (24.6.10) Please don't forget its class photos tomorrow so let's all look smart!! NB: I've added a couple of photos from 'Passion' presentations on the 'Passions' page (see left). This will be gradually made up-to-date in the next few weeks. There will be some times-table testing next week to see how much children have mastered. (14.6.10) Now in the middle of report writing and a busy last term. I will do my best to add things when time allows me. Please ensure your children are ready to do their 'Passions'. Photos of all passions will be added to this site so watch out!!!!! (6.6.10) Hello! We have an incredibly busy half-term ahead of us. In the next two weeks we will be studying traditonal stories from the Americas and I would appreciate help from any parents who can help with art and other activities. We have an abundance of 'Passion' presentations to catch up with too. This week we will are due India's and Jack's presentations. Please make sure your child is ready to present their presentation as we cannot afford to get behind. I also hope for the children to complete their picture books to read to the infants and start a 'World Cup' themed storyboarding/comic task. May I remind you all that Monday (7.6.10) is the final deadline date for 'Water' projects. Spellings and time-table tests will be completed weekly and so it is vital that children practise areas fro development identified in previous tests. (23.5.10) Miscellaneous (1) I'm off to PGL this week leaving Picasso class in the very able hands of Mrs Parker. (2) A spelling test was carried out last week. Results out soon. (3) The 'Water' project deadline has been extended until the first day back after half-term. (4) Thanks for coming to the assembly. Many parents said how great the personification poems were so I've provided copies to download here. (17.5.10) Europa was great fun!!
(17.5.10) A reminder that 'Water' projects are due in this week. (16.5.10) Can you help this week? Tuesday or Wednesday morning? (14.5.10) Misc 1. Could any creative parent help out either Tuesday or Wednesday morning to help with assembly preparations? Just to confirm our assembly is on Thursday 20th May at 9.05a.m. 2. Just a reminder that children should bring packed lunch and £2 spending money on Monday for our trip to Europa. 3. Year 5 girls and boys will be playing football against Highgate Primary next Thursday after school. Please come and support them if you can. 4. Maths homework was sent home today. Unfortunately the sheet is not available to download. Please ensure it is returned by Wednesday. (12.5.10) Sorry! SWIMMING IS ON!!!!!!!! Another change of plan!!!!!!!!!!! (8.5.10) Rosie's cookery passion session is tomorrow afternoon. She has asked everyone to make a small donation of 55p towards the cost of ingredients. There was no maths homework handed out last week as the children have been working hard with their assessment.
I would really like some parent helpers this week to help groups of children prepare for our class assembly which is on Thursday 20th May at 9.05 a.m and not the 27th May as originally stated in some documentation. Do any parents have some spare time available this Wednesday or Thursday afternoon or Friday a.m. I might need helpers next week too. You must have had a List 99 check. Don't forget that projects are due in at the end of next week as I am away at PGL the following week. Certificates are nearly done for the last project! There will be several spelling tests this week on old words learnt from previous terms and those stated in the 'Water' project letter. There will also be a times-table test on a variety of tables. (See this week's intended timetable right.) (6.5.10) Would love to see the 'averages' homework sheet handed in please! You can download it on this page, use today to get it done, and hand it in tomorrow! Please....!!!! Well done to Picasso for all their hard work this week. They are doing really well. 'Continent' project certificates with you very soon. (6.5.10) I will be accompanying Year 6 to PGL during week commencing 24th May 2010. Picasso Class will be taught by Mrs Parker and Miss Palmer during this week.
(3.5.10) This week is assessment week. Remember the school is closed on Thursday because it is being used as a polling station for Election Day. (3.5.10) Please find attached this term's 'Passion' presentation timetable. Rosie will finally do her cookery lesson this week and needs some donations from everyone with the ingredients. Lui will be organising 'Passion Day' which should be fun! Sorry India - I forgot the name of your passion! Will add soon. (2.5.10) This week's averages maths homework attached right. We are missing several from last week so please hand these in asap. (BTW Some children borrowed some money from me for the gift shop at the Ragged School Museum. It would be nice to have this at your earliest convenience. Many thanks.) This week it would be great if children mastered the four standard written methods for maths if they haven't done so already. (26.4.10) Photos from the Ragged School Museum (more to follow)
(25.4.10) Look out for a new timetable for the 'Passion' presentations very soon. It is highly recommended that children play the games in the Maths Club at this time of the year to facilitate their understanding. Please find a new useful link to work on probability. This week we will be looking at a range of mathematics including averages. Do you have a Nintendo Wii? One great way of practising averages is to find the mode, median, and mean of scores. e.g the ten scores in the bowling game on Wii Sports. A great way to learn whilst having lots of fun. Or maybe you have a dartboard or a board game such as Scrabble where you can find the average scores of words for example. Are there any parents available who don't mind getting their hands dirty to help tidy up and re-organise the paviliion for P.E equipment? I have several enthusiastic children available to help. (23.4.10) Hi! I'm back. Don't forget to send your children in on Monday 26th April wearing Victorian clothing. They should also have a packed lunch and £2 spending money. We are all looking forward to going to the Ragged School Museum. I have about 5 caps for anyone wishing to borrow them. Project letters are out this Monday. The children were given a 'probability' maths homework sheet today. Don't forget I will be testing the children on the spellings from last half-term again soon. Hope they do well this time!
