Classification

Animals

Animals are divded into two main groups

Those with a backbone and internal skeleton (the vertebrates)
Those with no backbone and no internal skeleton (the invertebrates)

Vertebrates
    * Fish (have gills, scales and fins)
    * Reptiles (scaly skin, cold blooded)
    * Amphibians (born in water initially gills - lungs develop and then live on land)
    * Birds (have feathers)
    * Mammals (hair on body and drinks milk as a baby)

Invertebrates
    * Insects (6 legs, 3 parts to body, some have wings)
    * Arachnids (8 legs, two parts to body, no wings, sometimes poisenous)
    * Molluscs (muscular foot, soft body, no legs, some have shells)
    * Worms [aka Annelids] (long thin body divided into segments)
