14th December to 11th January

End of term, Christmas, New year, In-set days, school closures due to the weather meant that the Gardening Club couldn’t re-convene for a while.  For some days it was impossible even to get to the greenhouse to water the little beans and peas that were sprouting.

To everyone’s delight and amazement though, some mysterious person had been watering them, so when we were at last able to get the greenhouse, the little plants, far from wilting were looking very healthy indeed. In fact virtually all the seeds set by the Club had germinated.

But who was this mystery person who’d been watering?  It wasn’t Troy – our first guess.  It wasn’t Mr. Lanfranchi. It wasn’t Mrs. Holgate or Mrs. Henges. It turned out to be none other than Maurice, Troy’s assistant who, noticing the plants were in need of water when he was on his patrol of the grounds, did the necessary.
